G'Day,

I'd like to suggest an IM system for CAL, like the one TU has. This is great for organising battles, chimes when you receive a message, and will also stop people like me yelling out for E4 members in the chat.

For those who don't know, if you log into TU, there is a black bar at the bottom of the screen. This is where the IM system is located (once you log in).

Thoughts?

P.S. If people are interested in this, I could probably ask Stone if he knows anything about it.

If I understand correctly, you're proposing a system that's like an amalgamation of the CBox and VMs? IMO this could work, although i don't think it is necessary, since we DO have four different ways of getting in contact with e4 members and the like.

Its like a facebook chat. Its basically a quicker way of PM if the user is online. Also, you have to be friends with the person you want to chat.

No you don't. You can chat with anyone who is online. It also chimes and comes up straight away, so you don't have to wait for the other person to reload the page to receive your message like you do with a PM or a VM.

I'm struggling to see what advantages this has over the CBox. I will concede that it means your message won't be pushed off the CBox display, but it's not like we haven't got any other system in place already. CBox, PM, VM, the forum posts, some admins have various IM services such as MSN or AIM - these are just the ways of contacting an admin I know. There's five different ways there. In my opinion, if you can't contact an admin through those five methods you're going to have to accept that they're busy. Shocking, I know, but true. Additionally, putting myself in the shoes of a Gym Leader, I would feel that this IM service would just irritate me - can you imagine someone bugging you every time you're online?

In short, it's a nice idea but I don't see any reason to implement it, given the current methods of contact we already have.
On a side note, I admire your enthusiasm to improve CAL, Shurt, but there are more pressing issues to attend to.

I understand your points of view Sparty. However, this is still an idea that I think has its merits. If, for reasons such as yours, it will not be implemented, then that's fine. This is mearely a suggestion that I think could be benefitial to CAL.

Also, in regards to pestering Gym Leaders, like on AIM, you can choose to be away.

I think Buzz and I are the only two leaders who are too nice to not do that, lol. Maybe Rhino too...

Personally, I think it's a good idea, because it makes getting in contact with people for tournaments, or to just talk to others who you need to without having the rest of online CAL see it.

i think its a really good idea. It is different than c box because it allows for quick private conversations here without having to go elsewhere
